Chariot Festival

I had an amazing assignment this morning to document the Hindu Chariot Festival, day 13 of a 14 day event. There were hundreds and hundreds of people present, and the sea of faces and colour almost made the job of taking pictures quite easy. A few that I love, but we'll see what they publish!

Ganesh Kugan, 4, peeks out into the crowd from behind his mother and family.

Camphor is lit, and guides the way for the Chariot. Camphor signifies a loss of obstacles, and ensures that all negative occurences throughout the year are burned away.

The Priest sits in the chariot, which is pulled by members of the temple around the entire building, as he blesses everyone.

Kids at the Circus

I had to cover the Shriners Circus in Toronto this weekend. I couldn't get enough of all the kids, they love it! And they really love candy... of all kinds really. All my favorite pics are of the kids, portraits more so. Conveniently, kids are a subject that my paper loves! Terrible lighting, changing colours every three seconds and a constant moving spotlight, holy god, that was hard.

New York New York

Vendors at every corner, hot dogs, pretzles and pop in a can... who doesn't love NY?

Reflections. Taxi cabs galore.

A weird man selling weird things in a weird jacket outside MOMA. I thought it was interesting that he was sitting in front of a car that said MAD across the side. MOMA was having a special presentation of the exhibit DADA. You can imagine the smile on my face, those kinds of literary jokes crack me up. Unfortunately they were not kidding.

Bird Feeder

Back in the game... I took a little unexpected break, much needed I guess after portfolio time. I start my job soon so I've vowed to spend the next week or so snapping away getting my finger excercised back into shape.

I met a new friend in the park today in Toronto at Degrassi St. "Scotty" goes every day from 3-5pm to feed the birds. He admits it's simply cause it's better than watching the bube tube all afternoon. He seems to know most birds by name, explaining how he tells them apart by their markings. Some birds have been coming to him every day for over 4 years. This was a big feat for me as I am terrified of birds. Particularly pigeons... One white one, blondie he calls it, I had to be on the lookout for. Scottie says that he gets very protective over his peanuts and will probably peck me if I got too close. Sweet. I kept my eye on him.
